Description Hyperkin RetroN 5
Do you remember the time when there was no buffering? You just started from the beginning again and again. Depending on the difficulty, that could have been quite a lot of repetitions... Nowadays you're pretty spoiled if you can quickly save again before the final boss and recharge your health. How nice it would be if this could also be done with classics like Super Mario World would work...
Tada, the Hyperkin RetroN 5 makes dreams come true. There are nine old consoles in this console, so to speak, which means you can connect all your old modules directly here and play on your (hopefully) big TV. Epic! You can choose between a black and a gray console.
The Hyperkin RetroN 5 covers the following systems:
- NES (Nintendo Entertainment System)
- SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
- Famicom (Nintendo Family Computer)
- Super Famicon
- Sega Genesis
- Sega Mega Drive
- Game Boy
- Game Boy Color
- GBA (Game Boy Advance)
- you can also connect your Sega Power Base Converter to use Sega Master System modules
Both PAL and NTSC modules can be used without any problems. This means that it does not matter which form of color transmission the games support. (Modules from the USA, for example, are designed for NTSC and therefore often did not run on the old consoles for the European market).
One of the best things about it: you can save at any point in the game and continue there later. The Hyperkin RetroN 5 can also do a bit more. Each game can be customized according to your own preferences, for example color and sound. If you're worried that an old Game Boy game won't look so good on a screen with a diagonal of more than one meter, don't worry, the resolution is automatically scaled up to 720p via HDMI. The picture format can be switched between 4:3 and 16:9.
Another extra that you could only dream of in the past are the pre-installed cheatswhich can be called up at any time in the game (there may be exceptions to this in some games). For example, to replenish the life bar. Or to improve your equipment a little. Or, but we think this is a bit inglorious, to boost a few points and skip nasty tasks.
Controller
The RetroN 5 comes with a wireless Bluetooth controller in a retro design. In addition to the analog stick and the six usual buttons on the top as well as Start and Select, the controller has a home button that takes you to the menu and two shoulder buttons. There are also two programmable macro buttons. The controller is charged directly on the console with the supplied cable via micro USB. However, you don't have to play alone and you don't necessarily have to buy a second controller, as there are slots for original controllers, two for each platform, i.e. six in total (2 x NES, 2 x SNES, 2 x Sega). The corresponding controller has a range of up to nine meters.
If you no longer want to play alone with the Hyperkin RetroN 5 and maybe don't have any old controllers from NES and Co. anymore, you need a additional controller. ;)
The original controllers of the old consoles have their own charm, of course, but wireless via Bluetooth is definitely more convenient. The days of being stuck 1 m in front of a tiny screen are over - but the cables are usually too short for you to lean back and relax.
There are really only two things you need to do: Dig out your old modules and plug them in (don't be surprised, the mains plug comes with different adapters so that it fits anywhere in the world). Then nothing stands in the way of a reunion with Donkey Kong, Sonic or even underrated characters like Psyduck. :)
Note: A frequent criticism of the Hyperkin RetroN 5 was that old game saves were deleted from the modules. This problem has been fixed with one of the latest software updates. The latest updates are available hereYou can simply download them on your PC and transfer them to the console via SD card.
